Why Go Greek?
The
glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly
smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual
inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else
believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship.

Scholarship
One sign of strong
academic ability is a solid grade point average. The Greek
community traditionally maintains a higher G.P.A. than the all
University average. To assist students in academics, many
chapters provide assistance for tutoring and have education al
funds for academic enrichment of its members. Leadership The
Greek community has many opportunities for you to get involved
including individual chapter leadership, Greek Council,
Panhellenic, or campus activities and organizations like Student's
Union or one of many campus clubs. The Greek Community also
provides opportunity for leadership enrichment activities through
CIFC, UIFI, and others. Through all these advantages you allow
yourself the perfect opportunity to network through alumni.
Community
Service
Greeks take pride in
community service and philanthropy. Each chapter has a
foundation or charity they sponsor through a philanthropic event.
Greeks also enjoy participating in the philanthropies of other
chapters. There is also tremendous participation in campus
activities including Blood Drive, Greek Week, Teeter Totter-A Thon,
and other campus charity endeavors.
Friendship
When you go Greek, it's
not like joining a regular club or activity. It isn't a case of
just showing up for a meeting once a month or getting together for
one event each term. With daily interaction and constant
opportunities for leadership within the chapter, fraternities and
sororities lay the groundwork for lifelong friendships
A fraternity brother or
sorority sister is someone who will encourage you to succeed,
support you when things are going well, and listen when you are
having problems. This is, after all, what being a brother or
sister is all about; unconditional support.
At the heart of these
friendships and interactions are the traditions within each house.
Although each fraternity and sorority has different founding
values, you'll find some words come up again and again in all
Greek organizations: virtue, scholarship, ethics, justice, and, of
course, friendship. These strong basic beliefs have long been a
part of college communities across the United States, and are key
contributors to the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood that over
seven million members have enjoyed
Social
Activities
The Greek community
provides a variety of social opportunities. A balance between
academics, campus involvement and social activities helps Greeks
to become well-rounded and successful young men and women.
Events throughout the
year include a variety of social mixers that allow people to relax
and meet new people. Mixers are often centered around a theme,
such as rock decades or Hawaiian luaus, and allow fraternities and
sororities to interact in a social setting. Many chapters have
house formal for all the members and their dates, as well as
Panhellenic Formal in the fall, and Greek Formal in the winter.
Chapters also hold retreats, which can include the entire
membership, or just a pledge class who want to strengthen their
bonds. Retreats and road trips are a great way to get off campus.
Another great thing
about being a member of a Greek organization, is that no matter
what campus, city, or province you may end up in, you will always
have people there to welcome and embrace you. If you're visiting
friends, or on vacation, you are always more than welcome to stop
by your fellow chapter home that is in the area. Our doors are
always open for one another. The Greeks foster a very supportive
system, which will follow individuals throughout their lifetime.
Living in an environment
with so many people who share your interests means that when you
have free time, there's always something to do. Whether it's
studying with a friend, going out for dinner, the movies, or to a
concert in a park, there's always someone to go along with!
